( THEPERSONALITY )
• How to describe dear Travis Moore? In a word? Sweet. Travis is by far one of the sweetest boys you ever will meet. He’s a complete gentleman; always opening doors and pulling out chairs for girls. He’s a complete ladies man for that exact reason. All through high school girls wanted his attention, this lead, however, to him having very few male friends. It may have had something to do with the fact that he rode horses? He had been teased all through school but do you think he cared? Heck no! That’s what he did; they just had to deal with it. Even with the power to have any girl he ever wanted, Travis was never one for relationships. It just seemed silly to him.
Travis is anything but an open book. He’s got a very mysterious quality to him whom everyone tries to push past but never really can. It’s defiantly the younger generation who are most fascinated by it; but only those close to him know the real story. Hardly ever will you see him display his feelings in public, he’s just a very private person, which given his past makes a lot of sense. He just goes through life trying to make it to the next morning; he hardly has any real goals in life anymore.
If you are lucky enough to be a close friend of Travis’, consider yourself very lucky. He finds it hard to trust so once you’ve earned it you don’t want to miss out. He is the most loyal and trustworthy friend you will ever have. He’ll always be there for you no matter what. He seems to really understand things, even if you know that he’s had no experience with such a problem. He’ll nod and give you his honest opinion every time. He’s that friend who always has a shoulder for you to cry on.
LIKES: being around horses, drinking, the atmosphere at horse shows, walking, country music, the smell of new leather, coaching riders , & looking through old pictures
DISLIKES: bad dreams, seeing others fail, smoking, partying, horses with bad ground manners, seeing his family, & sleezy men
FEARS: getting on a horse again & dying young
( THEHISTORY )
• Born in Lexington, KY, Travis was raised on horses. His grandfather owned several nice quality show horses, so Travis was showing ponies before he hit the 1st grade. He simply fell in love with the creatures and you couldn’t get him away from the barn. He had big dreams and he was determined to chase them. He quickly started jumping nice sized fences. Taking home huge ribbons and trophies, winning big championships in his division, everything was perfect. His big plans in Lexington were cut short, however. When Travis hit fifth grade his father was offered a trainer position in Albany, NY. It was hard to refuse. The Moore family packed up and headed north to central New York. The ajustment was hard, but it was for the best. Travis aquired several more horses to ride for his father's clients making him an even better rider. The fences got higher and higher and soon enough he was dominating the jumper circut in the Northeast by age 15. He was now spending the winters in Florida where he was faced with new challenges. Olympic hopes were starting to creep over him by age sixteen.
He made great friends amongst his showing team and got to ride amazing horses. His mother and father bought him his first horse when he turned sixteen. A 17 hh warmblood gelding named To the Max. The pair took home dozens of ribbons every weekend with no sign of stopping. They ruled the ring for three years together. As Travis got older he realized that the money to keep his beloved gelding was too much of a burden, so he sold him for a hefty sum. For the next year, Travis mainly catch rode as many show jumpers as he could. He had missed out on riding different horses for the last three years and was ready to gain experience on different mounts.
In the summer of his twenty first birthday, Travis was made an amazing offer on one of his visits to Florida. A trainer approached him; telling him how wonderful he thought Travis’ riding was. He said Travis seemed to have a real gift with horses and he should be seen by the world. The Trainer asked Travis to ride his up-and-coming mare in a jumper class the next day to see how they got along. Travis never declined an offer to ride someone’s horse. He agreed and took a test ride on the delightful bay mare. It went perfectly! The next morning the pair prepared to ride in a jumper class together.
That’s when everything went downhill. The pair entered the ring with poise and class. They cleared the first combination with ease and were heading into a turn to a three bar. It had rained quite hard the night before leaving the footing quite sloppy. They approached the three bar and Travis waited for the mare’s lift to send him into two point. He waited and waited and waited. They were right on top of the jump when she stopped dead in her tracks. However, the mare was determined and tried to jump from a standstill. She reared up and lost her balance. Travis was trapped between the thousand pound mare and the ground with nowhere to go. The rest was a blur. The mare had landed on top of him.
Travis awoke three weeks later in the hospital. The damage was done. He suffered a severe concussion, a broken pelvis, a dislocated shoulder, a fractured arm, a collar bone injury and four broken ribs. He was in the hospital for another month recovering. He was sent home to New York in a wheel chair. He has since gone to physical therapy and regained most function. He still has a slight limp but that’s minor to what could have happened. He has sworn never to ride ever again, and has lived by that oath to this day. Its not that he can’t ride, he’s been cleared to do flat work and maybe some small jumps but he just can’t get himself to do it. The fear is ever lingering. However, he's found joy in teaching others to ride. He only hopes that he can succeed in making his students' dreams come true.
